Fall’s A-Coming! Must Gets for the PacNW

I’ve been fooled. Hoodwinked. Bamboozled! After a lovely (albeit a little smokey) summer with sunny days, gentle breezes, what they called a heatwave (I scoff at your 9 days of 90-degree weather, Rose City!), true Portland weather reared it’s head this weekend.
It was misty, windy, and gray on Sunday. Not at all what I’m used to for August weather. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, I’m wearing tights today, y’all. Tights! In August!

Trying to get ready this morning, I realized I have to beef up my Fall wardrobe. Here are my top four must gets before the weather gets really real.

PacNW Fall

Raincoat

I love a good coat. Pea coat. Trench coat. Moto jacket. Car Coat. To be honest, it might be a problem. With that said, I don’t have a lot of functional raincoats. I have one North Face, which is utilitarian but come on, I need a little bit of style. Enter in the Harbor Cropped Trench from Land’s End. It’s a good length and princess cut, which is pretty flattering for us with some hip action. Plus the red poppy color will add a little flare to a dreary day.

Wellies

Catching the theme here? I want to be prepared for the sogginess that comes with the Pacific Northwest Fall, so now’s the time to get these classic rain boots. I’ve had my eye on a pair of Hunter’s Original Tall Boots in olive and never really thought they were a necessity in NC. Now that I’m not going to spend 5 months in rain (pray for me y’all), they have moved up from the ‘want list’ to the ‘must get’ list.

Cozy Sweater

While every day won’t be rainy, most days will be grey. I don’t know about you but when it’s grey out, I liked to feel cozy. This Banana Republic Turtleneck Zip Sweater can be paired with skinny pants (which is generally what you want to do when wearing something with a lot of volume on top) or belted for a more office appropriate look. For the weekends, leggings or skinny jeans will work for walking around my new neighborhood. I’m eyeballing this in golden ornament, to add a little sunshine to the day.

Sweater Dress

Same reasoning as above but in the rain, I don’t really like wearing pants. Even when they are hemmed, if you have to walk from the bus stop to the office, you’ll be walking around in wet pants and that’s a chill you can’t shake. On top of that, sweater dresses are flattering and simple. It’s one piece. Throw it on, belt it, add a scarf, and you have an outfit. no matching needed. This Ann Taylor cowl neck in classic plum can go from work to weekend with a change of shoes.

With these additions to my fall collection, I feel confident I can get through my first season change in the Rose City.
