YOU GUYS WE DID IT AGAIN. Went and disappeared without any notice. My colleague was in DC this weekend, and we were sitting in my living room chatting about totally unrelated topics and she said, “So what are we doing with our blog?” We decided the best way to repay your patience and loyalty was with a series of posts we knew you’d enjoy – and hopefully participate in!
A few months back, we each gave up a hair-related styling crutch as part of a one-month challenge, which served a dual purpose: to see if we could make it, and to force ourselves to be more creative and intentional about what we did with our hair. Well, today we’re announcing a new challenge with a longer timeline and higher stakes – the no-shopping summer!
The rules are simple: between now and Labor Day, there are to be no new clothing, shoe, or accessory purchases. Zero. Zilch. Nada. The point of this exercise is for the two of us (and you, if you’re game!) to learn to be more creative with our existing (and admittedly vast) wardrobes.
Here’s what’s allowable: tailoring. Tailoring is the epitome of making the best use of what you already have. You just have to already have it. No new items. No exceptions.
We never said it would be easy. This Gchat interaction JUST happened:
Lauren: WHY IS KATE SPADE ON HAUTE LOOK???me: IT IS NO SHOPPING SUMMER DUDEI AM LITERALLY TYPING UP THE POSTLauren: BUT BUT THIS: [redacted for everyone’s benefit, or else we’d all buy it and fail the challenge right away]me: BUT NO SHOPPING SUMMERLauren: AHHHHHHHHme: STAY STRONGLauren: okay I closed the window
Just close the window! We’ll be reviving the #OutfitSelfies to show you what we can pull together, and we hope you’ll share yours using the #PetiteCrew tag. And with that…
