Know Your Face: Sunday Night Rituals

You guys, Sunday night is my faaaaaaavorite night. It’s the night I hit “reset” on the previous week and get ready to face the one ahead. Given that my two favorite holidays are my birthday (it’s a holiday, dang it) and New Year’s Day, I think we can all agree that “starting over” is a concept I adore.

Here are some of the things I might do on a Sunday night: dishes, laundry, change the sheets/towels, watch Girls (it’s not all chores!), go to sleep early. Here’s something I definitely do, every Sunday night: deep-clean and treat my face.

The first thing I like to do on a Sunday night is a deep exfoliating wash. This means I use my beloved Clarisonic – I like to use the Aria on the highest speed. I generally find the one-minute setting is plenty for my face, but if I’ve had a particularly bedraggled weekend, I’ll set it for two minutes and go to town. Similarly, the cleanser I choose is based on my skin needs: if it’s a normal skin weekend, I’ll go for Checks and Balances; if I’m in need of a deeper cleanse, I’ll use Zero Oil.

After cleansing, it’s mask time! If I’m breaking out a bit, I’ll use the Peter Thomas Roth sulfur mask to force my blemishes out. If I’m in need of something soothing, I’ll go for my new discovery: Ole Henriksen’s Blue/Black Berry Enzyme Mask. This gel treatment uses fruit extracts to bring oxygen to the pores, lavender to soothe, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate. If I’m in need of something dramatic, I’ll reach for the GlamGlow  YouthMud – that stuff’s magic, I tell you. (And it’s frequently a 100-point perk at Sephora, so keep an eye out! The sample comes in a tube, which IMHO is far preferable to the tub.) Note: if you’re going to use the GlamGlow, take it a little easier on the Clarisonic step, as you don’t want to over-exfoliate and harm your skin.

After the face mask, I’ll tone and serum while I do the GlamGlow eye treatment (it’s a three-minute process; just the right amount of time for your serum to sink in!) and then follow up with eye cream and moisturizer – gobs of both. The last thing to do before calling it a night is to load my hair up with L’Oreal’s EverStrong Overnight Repair Treatment, which fortifies my locks and preserves my color while I sleep.

Next step: wake up Monday morning, ready to take on the world!
